CENTER IN THE PARK NOVEMBER SPECIAL EVENTS

Particularly in November, the month that kicks-off the holiday season of giving and sharing, Center in the Park (CIP) members are thankful. Come out and learn more reasons why CIP members celebrate positive aging, like this one: “Center in the Park gets me up in the morning and starts me moving. I arrive to do line dancing, movin’ and groovin’ and tai chi. I am truly grateful for Center in the Park. The members of the center are always beautiful.” – CIP Member

Membership in CIP is free for older adults 55+ although certain programs and services are free for 60+ older adults only. Call the Center to make an appointment with the Center Counselor or membership registrar to complete an application, Mondays through Fridays, 8:30 am until 4:30 pm, 215-848-7722. Please register/sign-up in advance for all classes, including free classes and events, as space may be limited. Special Events on Center in the Park’s November Calendar, include:

Friday, November 11 – 10:00am – CIP’s Men’s Gathering 3rd Annual Veterans Breakfast – Join in paying tribute to and showing appreciation for veterans. $5.00 - Call the Program Office to register: 215-848-7722.

Wednesday, November 9 – December 14 – 9:00am-11:30am – Harvest Health Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop – this six week, 2and a half hour per week workshop series will give you tools to better manage any chronic health condition and is proven to result in positive lifestyle changes. To register for the 6 free classes, in which you will also receive a free textbook and relaxation CD, please call Marie Marthol-Clark, CIP Health Promotion Coordinator, at 215-848-7722. This program is supported by funds received from the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA) and the PA Department on Aging.

Tuesday, November 15 – 10:00am – 12:00pm – National Memory Screening Day Event – Dr. Brent Simmons will present and answer questions about Alzheimer’s Disease and you will receive a free confidential memory screening. To register, please contact Delores Palmer, CIP Health Promotion Coordinator, at 215-848-7722.

Tuesday, November 22 – 11:00am – CIP’s annual home cooked Thanksgiving Feast with all of the trimmings – prepared by members of the Mt. Airy Baptist Church and served by CIP Staff. - $5.00 – call the Program Office to register - 215-848-7722 – this event is always a sellout.

Wednesdays at the Movies – 1:00pm – See favorite movies – old and new - $1.00 includes admission and a snack:

  • Nov. 2 – I am Legend (Will Smith)
  • Nov. 9 – The Pursuit of Happyness (Will Smith)
  • Nov. 16 – The Five Heartbeats (Robert Townsend)
  • Nov. 23 – Six Degrees of Separation (Will Smith).

    CIP classes, special events and activities, daily lunch (free for adults 60 and over; and, $3.25 for adults under 60) – advanced reservations required – 215-848-7722, ext. 208; health promotion activities, a fully equipped fitness center and ongoing classes such as computer, pottery, painting, guitar, Zumba and Yoga, are free or moderately priced at Center in the Park.

    Center in the Park is a community center that promotes positive aging and fosters community connections for older adults (55+) whose voices are critical instruments in shaping its activities and direction. CIP is accredited by the National Institute of Senior Centers, a unit of the National Council on Aging as a provider of excellent programs, activities and services for its active membership of more than 6,000 and its 1,000 homebound clients.
