For Immediate Release April 16, 2010
Center in the Park (CIP) and the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition (GPUAC) have partnered to provide financial education for older adults. The partnership will provide information and education on topics ranging from financial fraud to training and counseling on other financial topics of interest to participants. As part of the collaboration, CIP will host a FAN Club. It will be composed of a group of individuals who are 55+ who can commit to meeting together six consecutive times to improve their money management habits, get their financial situations under control and pursue their financial goals. The FAN Club will meet six times for financial trainings: 1) a class given by a financial instructor and 2) a segment just for the club members to confidentially discuss comments from the class, review their goals, and offer each other specific encouragement and advice. The FAN Club meeting is also a place where its members can share experiences, express frustrations, socialize and have some fun. Refreshments will be provided. To get involved, please call Dianne B. Tucker, CIP Volunteer Coordinator at (215) 848-7722. If you can commit to attending six meetings (May 5-June 9) you could become a member of the first Fan Club graduating class at Center in the Park. In addition to succeeding with your financial goals, there will be an incentive available for your participation. The dates for the 6 meetings are on Wednesdays from May 5 through June 9, 2010. If you have conflicts with the dates but are still interested, please call. Meetings will be held at Center in the Park, in Vernon Park, at 5818 Germantown Avenue with off-street parking available on the lot at Rittenhouse & McCallum Streets. Membership at Center in the Park is open to adults, age 55+ and non-members may attend certain classes, trips and activities, as well. For an appointment with the Center Counselor or membership registrars, call 215-848-7722.
